Obama is a Bitter, Clinger!
The President is, what he said his adversaries are, a "bitter, clinger". He is not clinging to his guns and Bible but he is getting ready to pull the trigger on Health Care and the Public Option and he is clinging to his new age religion of Global Climate Change. New name. Same game. Global Warming by any other name still smells of bad science.
Reconciliation is moving forward in the back rooms of Washington D.C. as the Democrats prepare to use the risky Senate procedure. Even the author of this self-serving legislative manipulation says it shouldn't be used on something as devastating to our economy as Health Care. 1/6 of our Gross Domestic Product (GDP) will be up for grabs.
Senator Robert Byrd (D) of West Virginia was one of the people who came up with the Reconciliation rule back in 1974. Here is what he wrote to his colleagues last year about using reconciliation in the process for Health Care and Climate Change legislation:
"I oppose using budget reconciliation to pass health care reform and climate change legislation. Such a proposal would violate the intent and spirit of the budget process and do serious injury to the constitutional role of the Senate."
Obama is not listening to the august Senator Byrd. He is proceeding with plans to use Reconciliation. The Democrats have been having trouble rounding up the 51 votes for this process but the Administration says it has 50 votes assured. They will bring in Vice President Joe Biden to break the 50/50 tie. He also says he will add four "Republican ideas" to the Health Care bill but his enthusiasm for any Republican point-of-view is underwhelming.
There has been a bad smell coming from the back rooms of the White House, the Senate and the House for more than a year now. I'm surprised we haven't seen Senators and Representatives walking around Washington D.C. with splints and slings from all the arm twisting Obama, Pelosi and Reid have been doing. There seems to be a revolving door on the backroom deals in D.C.
The Democrat Party seems to be hell bent to push all of their agenda through Congress and the Senate as soon as possible. Climate Change, one way or another, is on the agenda again. The Obama Administration says it will scale back its climate change legislation by only "going after" [coal powered] electric power plants, a new gasoline tax and phased in caps for industry among the "new" ideas being discussed. Never mind that those laws, if put into effect, will cost the American people thousands of jobs and cost millions of dollars.
One thing's for sure, the Obama Administration has show itself to be power hungry, tone deaf, misguided and totally delusional about mood of the American people. The real truth is Obama will use whatever means necessary to pass all of his agenda through reconciliation if he can get away with it.
My job, and the job of anyone running for office this year, is to be the pebble Obama trips over after the new Congress is seated. Obama and the Democrats are going to have a lot of pebbles piled at their feet after November. Enough pebbles to make a roadblock; enough to derail their agenda. Put enough of us pebbles together and we can become a mountain Obama and the Democrats can't climb. Help me become a pebble.
